Johannes Mut (some documents spell this surname as Muth) immigrated as a single man to Russia from the German village of Neuengronau.  He arrived at the Volga German colony of Boisroux on 17 August 1767.  He spent the winter in Boisroux before moving to the colony of Meinhard the following year.  He and his family are recorded in Meinhard on the 1798 Census in Household No. Mn17.
