Hans Peter Staff and his family immigrated to Russia from the German village of Wallroth. They arrived at the port of Oranienbaum from Lübeck on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love and Unity under the command of skipper Thomas Fairfax. They settled in the Volga German colony of Beauregard on 7 July 1767 where they are recorded on the 1767 Census in Household No. 60. Son Nikolaus and his family are recorded on the 1798 Census in Beauregard in Household No. Bo25.
