Christoph Brunner, a farmer, settled in the Volga German colony of Galka on 12 April 1766. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 25 as a widower with a son, Karl Ludwig (age 1-1/2).

The 1767 census records that Christoph Brunner came from the German region of Darmstadt.

This surname is erroneously recorded as Grunner in some sources.
