Friedrich Butler and his wife Helena [Magdalena] arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 10 August 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Nikolaus Peter Pinkom.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Bettinger on 3 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 10 along with a note that they relocated to the colony of Schaffhausen in 1768.
Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Friedrich Butler came from the German village of Stralsund.
