Johann Georg Eckhardt, a craftsman (Handwerker), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Schulz on 8 September 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 18.

The 1798 census of Rohleder records Melchior Eckhardt and his mother in Household No.Rl13.

The 1767 census records that Johann Georg Eckhardt came from the German region of Hessen-Kassel.
