Widower Philipp Gerhard, a farmer, and his son Johann Philipp arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Wiebe Heinrichson.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Kukkus on 26 June 1767 where they are recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 26 along with father Philipp's new wife Christina.

The 1767 census records that Johann Philipp Gerhard came from the German district of Braunfels.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records this surname as Erhardt.
