Discussion & Documentation:

Johann [Ludolph] Hartmann, a single man, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Paulskaya on 7 July 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 29 along with his new wife Josephina.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Hartmann was a physician from Bickenbach [?] while the 1767 census records that he was a barber (Friseur) from the German village of Bakenburg [?].
