Johann Peter Hempel and his sister Louisa arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766. They settled in the Volga German colony of Huck on 1 July 1767 where Johann Peter is recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 32. His sister has married by this time to Christoph Weisgerber and his recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 33.
