Johann Herbst, a single miller, arrived from Rewal at the port of Oranienbaum on 30 May 1766 aboard the pink Lopamink under the command of Lieutenant Kryukov.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Dietel.

In 1793, Johann Herbst and his family moved from Dietel to Frank. He is recorded on the 1798 census of Frank in Household No. Fk065.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Herbst came from the German region of Justrua [?]. Karl Stumpp records that Johann Herbst came from the German region of Mecklenburg.
