Discussion & Documentation:

There are two Köhler families that arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard a pink under the command of Lieutenant Moisey Davydov. They both settled in the Volga German colony of Krasnoyar on 20 July 1767.

(1) Konrad Köhler and his family are recorded on the 1767 census of Krasnoyar in Household No. 47. The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Konrad Köhler was a weaver while the 1767 census records that he was a farmer.

(2) Johann Martin Köhler married 10 February 1750 in Lardenbach to Marie Müller. They had 2 children born there: (1) Johann Caspar, born 11 January 1751; and (2) Elisabetha, born 3 February 1754; died 8 February 1754. Marie died from childbirth complications on 3 February 1754. He remarried to Magdalena Hessler who had been born on 6 May 1731. They had 3 children: (1) Johann Conrad, born on 30 July 1755, died on 8 April 1756; (2) Anna Margaretha, born 8 March 1757; and (3) Johann Heinrich, born 14 December 1763. The surviving members of this family are recorded on the 1767 census of Krasnoyar in Household No. 48.

The Facius list records that Johann Martin Keller was a shephard, Oranienbaum passenger list records that he was a tailor, and the 1767 census records that he was a farmer.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that these Köhler families came from the German region of Laubach. Johann Facius records that Johann Martin Keller came from the German village of Lardenbach.
