Magnus Knauf (age 22), an orphan, settled in the Volga German colony of Mariental and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 52 along with the Thomas Reger family.  No relationship between the Reger and Knauf family is recorded on the 1767 census.

In 1785, Mattias (Magnus?) Knauf and his wife moved from Mariental to the Caucasus.
