Johann Friedrich Kratz, a farmer, and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Bauer on 20 July 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 40.

The 1767 census records that Johann Friedrich Kratz came from the German village of Treto in the Holstein region.
