Heinrich Mattern, a farmer, and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Beauregard on 27 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 26.

In 1788, son Georg Mattern and his family moved from Reinhard to Beauregard. The 1798 census of Katharinenstadt records Daniel Mattern from Beauregard in Household No. Ka042. The 1798 census of Ober-Monjou records Philipp Mattern from Beauregard in Household No. Om30.

The 1767 census records that Heinrich Mattern came from the German town of Danzig.
