Johann Meng and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Messer on 7 July 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 10.

In 1795, Johannes Meng and his family moved from Kratzke to Messer.

In 1796, Christian Meng and his wife moved from Kratzke to Shcherbakovka.

There are some documents which have incorrectly recorded this surname as Mick.

The 1767 census records that the Meng family is from the German district of Kurpfalz.
