Jean Pasqual, a milliner (Hutmacher), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Franzosen on 26 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 55.

In 1793, Peter Pasqual moved from Franzosen to Husaren. In 1796, Johannes Pasqual moved from Franzosen to Rothammel.

Over the years, the spelling of this name was Germanized to Basgall (and variations thereof).
