Jakob Rome, a farmer, and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Herzog on 14 Juy 1766 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 4.

The 1767 census records that Jakob Rome came from the German village of Kaiserslautern in the Kurpfalz region.
