Wilhelm Daniel Schäfer and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Dönhof on 21 July 1766. Wilhelm Daniel died, and his widow Anna Margaretha remarried to Stephan Fink. The combined Fink / Schäfer family is recorded on the 1767 census of Dönhof in Household No. 38.

In 1788, Friedrich Schäfer and his family moved from Dönhof to Jost [not Kutter].
