Georg Schitzel, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard the Danish galliot Nord Stern under the command of Skipper Detlev Belling.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Lauwe on 5 September 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 45 along with his new wife Philippina and their 8-day-old daughter Magdalena.

The 1767 census records that Georg Schitzel came from the German village of Breternitz in the region of Sachsen (Saxony).
