Discussion & Documentation:

Ehrhard [sic] Schmidt, a single farmer, arrived together from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 29 August 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Johann Skott.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Göbel on 25 May 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 69 under the name Bernhardt. The 1798 census of Göbel records his name as Gerhard.

The 1767 census records that Bernhardt Schmidt came from the German village of Ebensfeld in the Bamberg region.
