Discussion & Documentation:

Hans Martin Wegert, a farmer, and his family immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein) in 1762. They are last recorded in Denmark on 12 January 1765.

They joined the migration to Russia settling in the Volga German colony of Galka on 12 April 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 41.

The 1767 census records that Martin Wegner [sic] came from the German village of Helenhof in the region of Kurpfalz. A researcher named Albert reports on the forum of wolgadeutsche.net that this Wegert family came originally from Helmhof in Baden-Württemberg.
