Christian Weldi, a farmer, and his family came from the German village of Holzhausen. Birth records for two of their children have been located in the parish records of Rheinbischofsheim which include people living in Holzhausen: (1) Johann Michael Weldi, born 13 January 1756; and (2) Sophia Dorothea, born 10 May 1759.

The family joined the migration to Russia and arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 July 1766 on a Russian packet-boat under the command of Lieutenant Makkensy.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Dietel on 1 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 14.

They 1767 census records that Christian Weldi came from the German village of Holzhausen in the region of Darmstadt.
