Peter Wellinger, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Kaneau.

In 1786, Philipp Wellinger and his family moved from Kaneau to Schäfer. They are recorded on the 1798 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. Ka107.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Peter Wellinger came from the German region of Kreutzen.
